Anyway, now that my time in London is coming to an end I've been trying to see as much of the city as possible and even though I know it quite well I still managed to get on a bus going the wrong direction...but I redeemed myself later when I gave proper directions to blatant tourists, HA! Anyway that's the extent of my exciting adventures...for now. Cheerio! (haha...you can't help but laugh when a grown British man uses that)
Thursday, May 04, 2006

Welcome to the drunk edition of 'Vicky's most recent Xanga post' (strangely, out of all the times I've been drunk, I think this is the first time I've written on here under the influence). Well I only have about a month left in London, which I find quite sad, but at the same time I don't have the same fear of returning home as I did a couple months ago. I think being here has finally given me the self confidence I've lacked for a long time, which will hopefully stick with me when I leave. Oof I think that's enough self reflection for one night...anyway I miss all of you back home, and can't wait to see you again!!!

Wednesday, March 22, 2006

I've
learned a few things since I've been abroad and now I'm making a list so I
remember them all, here goes:

1. The study abroad office was not lying at orientation when they said that the
pints are larger here and that they will get you...I've been had and my head is
retaliating against me.

2. Staying up late (approximately 4am) one night is just the beginning...almost
2 months later and I'm still staying up that late.

3. Running to get more alcohol before the store closes, while intoxicated and
having to use the toilet at the same time, is never a good idea, no matter how
important more alcohol is to you.

4. Do not tempt the monkeys on the Rock of Gibraltar with food and then attempt to
conceal it from them...they are extensively trained in full cavity searches and
will use force*, if necessary, to take it from you.

5. 'Certain' British men live up to the stereotypes they have been given in my
homeland.

6. Getting mail from far away lands will never be this exciting again, so milk
it for all its worth (this may include public gloating and rejoiceful dancing).

7. Look both ways before crossing the streets no matter what direction the
crossing tells you to look...and if you're going to potentially get hit by a car during this process make it an Aston Martin or Ferrari so it looks good.

8. Last but not least...it is not below oneself to sell alcohol to desperate
flatmates with certain terms and conditions (e.g. snogging or sexual favours).

Here endeth the list, for now........

* force includes, but is not limited to the following: scratching, biting,
pinching, pummeling, dive bombing, poo flinging and rock throwing

Thursday, March 09, 2006

Wow xanga I have neglected you. Hmm lets see, I just got back from a fabulous week in Spain with some awesome people. We went to Granada and saw the La Alhambra, an amazing palace. From there we drove down the coast and stopped in Gibraltar. Where one of the guys I was with got attacked by a rabid pack of monkeys who stole his cookies and then proceeded to fly from the roof tops almost on top of me...very scary. We also got to watch the sunset over Africa from Spain, which was beautiful. I also gained a new nickname while there, Cabasa Mierta (aka shithead) because a bird pooed on my head (not happy with that souvenier at all). But yeah that's what I've been up to, now I'm recovering from my Spanish sunburn...yay! Cheers!

beautiful Espania!

Monday, February 20, 2006

So my updates are becoming fewer and farther in between (not like it really matters). I haven't really been up to anything exciting recently. I went to Oxford last weekend, it was pretty and I got to see where they filmed parts of the Harry Potter movie. We also went to a Duke's Palace which was gigantic and amazing. I haven't done anything touristy in London for awhile. I've been doing quite a bit of stuff with my flatmates, though, which is awesome; they keep me occupied so I don't constantly mope about missing my friends from home (but I still miss you all very much!!!). We've also planned a trip to the South of Spain in two weeks, which is extremely exciting! But that's about it...hope all is well with everyone. Cheers!
Tuesday, February 07, 2006

Hmm I haven't updated in awhile, so here goes...I haven't been up to a whole lot lately cause I realised (oo British spelling...yay!) I really needed to start doing school work. So I've been reading like a fiend and writing papers. I did use my 'no class Monday' to be a tourist and I went to the Tower of London. It was pretty interesting, I got to see the Crown Jewels...they were shiny and sparkly! I had lab for my endocrinology and reproduction class today...it never fails, every time I have a lab I get stuck with a partner who has no idea what they are doing...so woo! But I got my stuff taken care of so said lab partner can fend for himself (mwahaha!). Well that's about it...oo oo I get to go to Oxford this weekend, I'm pumped! Cheers!
Friday, January 27, 2006

Yay! another week done! i think i learned quite a few things this week...a lot of them about myself and remembering why i came to London in the first place, which thankfully brought me out of my broodiness! i also learned that i can make it to the top of St. Paul's Cathedral (all 530 steps) without dying, although i think i contracted a fear of spiral staircases that twist counter-clockwise (crazy Brits and their doing things backwards). hmm what else...ah yes the pints really are larger here and they will get you, the British guy on my floor is quite friendly and finally...the most phallic like building in the world was erected in Ypsilanti, Michigan http://www.cabinetmagazine.org/phallic/winner.php there's the picture of it, for those that are curious (has nothing to do with London, but still its quite entertaining)...Cheers!

Monday, January 23, 2006

i made it through my first week of classes successfully...woo! i do believe i'm becoming pseudo-British, because i drink tea a lot now...even with milk in it (gross, i know that's what i thought too but it really isn't that bad)...so in recent news, i'm sure everyone heard about the whale in the Thames, sadly it died and now they're trying to figure out why. frankly i think its quite clear...i've seen the Thames, nothing can survive in that its as murky and thick as the WDC's chocolate milk, its toxic (i'm amazed it doesn't glow at night) ...and they were wondering why the whale wanted to beach itself *shakes head*. anyway enough about the whale...i think the highlight of my day was seeing a little old lady that closely resembled Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka, she had the glasses and everything; i had to contain my fits of laughter after that...if only i had had my camera out, bollox! anyway that's about enough for now, i'm avoiding reading by writing this, so i best get to it...cheers!

Thursday, January 19, 2006

so yesterday was my bday...not gonna lie i wasn't looking forward to it at all. haha not just cause i'm ancient now ;) but being away from home and all the people i love there, was hard. but i made it out ok, the group that i do stuff with here made diner and got me a cake, so it was a lot better than expected and i had fun so...woo!. and i spent the whole day at the british museum, which was huge and interesting. i've had most of my classes already. the endocrinology and reproduction one is going to be difficult, but the arts and society and britain in decline shouldn't be too hard plus i know people in both of them. i still have one other class that only meets every other week, its an english one so we'll see what that's like. haha the two classes i had today are taught by wee little irish men...i really want one of them to say 'you can't catch me lucky charms' i would laugh hysterically and be satisfied for the rest of the semester. and they tend to be fairly blunt, which is hilarious. but that's about it for now. cheers!
